Health care can be hard to come by when you live in a rural area. But one facility in the valley is making it easier for residents to have medical care close to home.
With the expansion of Rockville’s health facility residents will now be able to go see a physician or health care provider for just about anything.
With the cut of a ribbon, residents and officials celebrated a new beginning in Parke County.
“What it means is that we have legacy care that will continue on into the future where local residents will not have to travel large distances to obtain primary health care services and other health services,” Dr. Steven
The Valley Professionals Community Health Centers had an open house to show case their expansion at the Rockville office.
It’s doubled in size increasing from 5 exam rooms to 12 and helps the facility grow in services.
“To allow increase access to primary medical health services and also increase access to mental health and behavioral health services, as well as nursing care coordination and community social work health services to help with other non-medical issues that are important to people’s health,” Waltz said.
Which is what Parke county needs out of the entire state of Indiana Parke County ranks the second highest in suicide per capita.
The county has more than 17 thousand residents, the ratio of primary care physicians in the county is 1 in 5,634.
With the new facility physicians and other medical experts will be able to help more people in their community.
“It’s important as a physician to remember that it takes more than pills to help a community,” Waltz said.
Along with the expansion the Rockville location will soon be adding a new physician as well as more staff in the upcoming months.
